Minister of Development attends course on Islamic management & leadership

The Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi, and other senior officers from the ministry recently attended a two-day Islamic management and leadership course.
The course, which was facilitated by Dato Aidit Ghazali, an expert from Malaysia, showed participants why Islamic management and leadership are the cornerstones of organisational success.
A clear and firm grasp of a conceptual and working knowledge in the discipline of Islamic management today is no longer a matter of choice, but rather a matter of necessity, in a world that is increasingly acknowledging and practising various models of Islamic based management within the corporate, public, academic and voluntary sectors.

A LACK of knowledge of true Islamic teachings is believed to be one of the challenges faced in the implementation of Islamic management and leadership in the government.
This was the general consensus among the group of senior officers from the Ministry of Development (MoD) who took part in the two-day Islamic Management and Leadership workshop held at The Empire Hotel and Country Club which concluded yesterday.
The 41 participants, consisting of heads of department, units and sections, were divided into seven groups and each group appointed one member to present their views on the challenges faced in implementing Islamic management and leadership.
In general, most groups believed that Islamic management and leadership was already present in the government as Brunei has the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) as its national philosophy, however improving on this and sustaining it was a challenge.
Some of the challenges presented were lack of leadership quality in staff, bad habits such as habitual lateness, lack of skills and resistance to change.
Participants also mentioned that staff were sometimes adverse to taking risks and lacked passion and motivation to do their jobs.
Hj Mohamad Zin, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Development said in today's world of management, it is better for the officers of the ministry to improve management and practice an Islamic Management Model that integrates into daily work in the interest of preparing for the future as well as capturing a more advanced and challenging dimension of Islamic management.
"If we want to become successful leaders, we first have to become good leaders to ourselves," he said.
He added: "We have to look for knowledge, not wait for it. I believe the knowledge gained during this course will be very useful, and the course will provide knowledge on the role of the Ministry of Development from the Islamic perspective."
Present as guest of honour at the closing ceremony yesterday was Hj Mohd Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunos, permanent secretary at MoD, who presented certificates to the course participants.The Brunei Times

Pegawai kanan kementerian hadiri kursus kepimpinan dan pengurusan Islam

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Rabu - Kementerian Pembangunan melalui Jabatan Pembangunan Sumber Manusia dengan kerjasama Crescent Sdn Bhd hari ini mengadakan kursus kepimpinan dan pengurusan Islam yang dihadiri oleh pegawai kanan kementerian dan jabatan di bawahnya.
Turut hadir di kursus tersebut selaku tetamu kehormat ialah Menteri Pembangunan, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi Haji Osman. Kursus itu dikendalikan oleh Dato'Aidit Ghazali yang pernah menjadi perintis institusi Islam dalam sektor korporat, awam, akademik dan sukarelawan sejak 30 tahun dan telah mengamalkan pengurusan Islam sehingga kini.
Kepimpinan dan pengurusan Islam adalah fakta asas bagi kejayaan organisasi dan berdasarkan pendedahan sumber asal Al-Quran dan Hadis, seseorang dapat mempelajari cara keberkesanan Islam, penyelesaian masalah dan peruntukan sumber yang terhad, terutama sumber manusia.
Cara kepimpinan yang ditunjukkan oleh Nabi Muhammad S.A.W boleh dijadikan sebagai bimbingan dalam bagaimana untuk menjadi seorang pemimpin yang baik manakala gaya kepimpinan Umar Ibnu Al-Khattab pula adalah ciri-ciri yang perlu diikuti dan dipakai dalam konteks kepimpinan organisasi.
